Counselling and psychotherapy are terms which are often used interchangeably and sometimes mean different things to different people.
The important thing about both is that they involve talking about what is on your mind and working with the therapist or counsellor to think about and explore issues which arise.
Therapy and counselling both recognise that many people suffer from recurring problems that they can't seem to get to the bottom of, behaviour which they don't understand or patterns in their relationships which don't make sense. Psychodynamic psychotherapy seeks to identify patterns and make links whereby understanding and insight is gained and change can be achieved.
